Prepress Manager

Ramco Printing Works Limited a leading Printing Company in East Africa and a Ramco Group Company seeks to recruit a determined, competent and highly motivated individual to fill in the above position.

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Incumbent shall;
• Lead Pre press department in aligning departmental objectives to both short and long term company objectives.
• Maintain daily production schedule and all workflow procedures within prepress department, including all phases of production from concept and design up to final product where necessary.
• Under broad supervision of Traffic In-charge, manage operation of Pre-press by serving as customer liaison to other departments, coordinate production schedule with Design and Front End, Computer to Plate and Digital Printing.

• Shall be the overall In-charge of Prepress department
• Lead and Inspire Pre press Designers towards creative thinking and new design concepts development to enhance company’s client attrition rate.
• Plays a major role in coordinating between Pre press, Estimation, Sales, Customer service and Production departments to ensure customer satisfaction is achieved.
• Shall be the reporting head to all Pre press staff and therefore responsible for supervision, evaluation and assign daily work within the department.
• Coordinate the entire Prepress department to ensure efficient design style and format are done in line with client’s requirement and as per agreed timescales.
• Prioritize all Pre press jobs to ensure that client requirements / deadlines are met.

a. Design & Front End
• To ensure that all design work is documented and well monitored on a daily basis through a structured format.
• Follow up with the respective designer/s to ensure all design work is completed according to the client’s requirement and agreed time.
• Coordinate with Traffic In-charge to ensure daily design report is well documented and received from all the respective individuals.
• Oversees Designers checklist compliance on all jobs undertaken by various staff handling both Front End and / or Design.
• Approves client’s sample / proof before the same is sent to the client for approval and in his/ her absence delegates the same to the Traffic In-charge or the responsible Designer.
• In conjunction with the Traffic In-charge, generate and maintain daily production schedule and all workflow procedures.

b. Computer to Plate Operations (CTP)
• Supervise and ensure timely delivery of computer plates to production department for relevant printing.
• Oversees Computer to Plate (CTP) checklist compliance on all jobs undertaken by various staff handling plate preparation to promote accuracy and avoid errors.
• Ensure jobs are well prioritized within CTP to keep production supplied with all jobs required and have the same ready within clients agreed time.
• Monitor in conjunction with the CTP staff, raw material consumption rate and ensure the same are reordered in good time to avoid time wastage.
• Undertake printing machine planning by consulting production department regarding the respective machine to be used in order to avoid plate wastages.
• Works hand in hand with CTP staff to ensure compliance to basic CIP3 standard.

c. Digital Printing
• Coordinate with Indigo machine operators to achieve a minimum expected number of clicks on a daily basis unless defined otherwise by unforeseen circumstances.
• Ensure that all jobs undertaken under the digital printing machine have job cards for the same.
• Coordinate with Traffic In-charge to ensure daily digital print report is well documented and received from the responsible individuals.

d. Maintenance and Calibration of Machines
• Shall liaise with maintenance department and / or IT department and ensure all Pre press machinery and equipment are serviced and maintained as per agreed durations.
• Ensure Proofing machine and CTP machine are calibrated within the stipulated period of time.

e. People Management
• Delegate duties and tasks within the department with a view to attaining high performance work culture and ensuring that work is evenly distributed across the team.
• Coach, motivate and mentor all team members with regards to decision making and lifestyle choices enabling them to take control of their own lives, increasing independence and to produce desired results.
• Perform regular evaluation / appraisal of team member’s performance and devise strategies to help with improvement.

• Bachelor’s degree in Printing Technology and / or Graphic Design.
• At least five (5) years of experience in Design (consultations, space planning and layout).
• Hands on Experience in Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop Application and in Reprography work.
• Hands on experience in printing process & techniques.
• Exposure to different kinds of commercial printing.

Leadership Skills: Must be inherent of diverse leadership skills for management purposes.
Client Oriented: Able to work easily with clients to ensure that designs meet specifications.
Communication:Effectively communicate with clients and staff to ensure focus is upheld.
Manages Priorities: Be able to work within boundaries of deadlines and changing priorities and can effectively manage a workload to meet deadlines and satisfy clients.

Print Sales Executives (4 Positions)

Key Responsibilities
• Reporting to the Sales and Marketing Manager
• Generate new business opportunities and manage existing client portfolio
• To build excellent relationships with clients, in order to sell the company’s services
• Meeting and exceeding sales targets and maximizing the profitability of each project
• Maintaining relationships with existing customers through regular review visits
• Visiting potential customers to demonstrate products and gain new markets
• Contacting clients by phone/email to take briefs, approve artwork, manage projects and ensure installation/delivery of goods
• Keep up to date with market and customer information
• Advising on forthcoming product developments and discussing special promotions
• Gain a clear understanding of the customers’ business and requirements
• Monitoring of print management for your clients and ensuring timely deliveries

• Degree or a Diploma in Sales or Marketing
• Min. 3 years experience in sales and marketing preferable in printing or related industry
• Have a valid clean Driving License.
• Proven track record in Print Sales will be an advantage

Studio/Traffic Manager
Reporting to the General Manager

Overall Job Purpose
Handling of the Designers Output Management by supervising and advising the designers and ensuring the set targets are met on time without compromising the quality of the end product to the customers’ satisfaction

Duties and Responsibilities
• Responsible for the smooth operations of design tasks by organizing and coordinating workflow in order to attain the set targets on time and cost effectively
• Ensuring preparation of daily plan for the designers after developing a brief for each designer by collecting all information being given by the customer.
• Responsible for Designer’s Output Management by supervising and advising the designers with an objective of getting best design output
• Ensuring the set targets are met timely without compromising on the quality of the end product.
• Assigning and following up on jobs in Pre-Press and ensuring that they go to production on time so as to meet the agreed client deadline.
• Taking and writing briefs by compiling all the jobs in the studio and distributing them to the designers according to the designers strength and work load.
• Responsible for receiving all jobs coming into the department in order to ascertain that the paper work done matches with the job card and whether the CD/Artwork received is useable.
• Timely preparation and submission of accurate and comprehensive designers, Prepress and job sent to production reports to the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements
• At least a diploma in printing or any other relevant field or in-depth knowledge in printing
• At least 3 years experience in studio/Traffic management.
• Excellent leadership, communication and organization skills
• Work under minimum supervision
• Has the ability of attention to details
